Acne and acne scars

Acne is a condition of the sebaceous glands, which produce the sebum (oil) that protects and keeps our skin soft. When the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, however, our skin becomes oily, and this can cause bacteria, which thrive in oily environments, to spread more easily.

Acne is characterized by blackheads, papules and pustules (pimples), cysts, and inflammation. It can affect the face, neck, chest, shoulders, and back. More than 85% of teens and young adults suffer from acne. It’s a more common skin problem than we think, even in adults, since it’s mainly caused by hormone imbalances.

To properly address this skin condition, we recommend that you meet with one of our skin experts to determine the best treatment protocol for you, since there are three different stages of acne and each one needs to be treated differently.

Mild acne: blackheads or whiteheads, pimples (papules and pustules)

Moderate acne: blackheads or whiteheads, increased numbers of papules and pustules that can leave scars

Severe acne: large numbers of pimples, cysts, nodules (large bumps), redness, inflammation, and pain
