Blackheads and microcysts

Blackheads

While these conditions typically go hand-in-hand with teenage acne, they can also be a problem during adulthood. Blackheads are formed by a buildup of dead skin cells and oil (sebum) in the hair follicle. The dirt and oil clogging the pores oxidize and turn black. Blackheads are found mostly on the forehead, nose and chin, but also on other parts of the face.

Microcysts

A microcyst is a closed comedone, between a blackhead and a pimple. It’s formed by a buildup of hardened sebum and dead skin cells in the hair follicle, but also on the surface, forming a bump under the skin. Proper hygiene and care are needed, as microcysts can become swollen and inflamed, sometimes even causing painful pimples.

Solution

Proper hygiene is the key to controlling and preventing blackheads and microcysts. Cleansing and moisturizing are important steps for healthy skin. Products that dry out your skin or aren’t suited to your skin type can make the problem worse. We have several options to help you get the upper hand on these skin conditions. A skin analysis is still the best way to address any issues.
